Technology Integration - Philosophy of Technology Integration
In today’s workplace a computer on the desk of most office workers is commonplace. Most workers have access to and knowledge of information technology as a useful tool throughout the course of their work. Recently, computer technology in the classroom is equally present. Students have access to and utilize computers on a regular basis.
While access is an important factor, how the technology is integrated into classroom activities and the school curriculum is even more important. The key to integrating technology is based on three factors.
First, teachers must have buy-in to the technology and training on the technology. This can be accomplished by school-wide in-service trainings that works to bring teachers up to speed on integrating technology in the classroom.
Second, at the district level, classrooms must be well-equipped and supported to assist teachers and students to use technology to further the curriculum goals of the district.
Third, teachers and students must move beyond just familiarization with computer technology and focus on expert-level utilization.
